About LongSword

History

“If you could do anything you wanted, what would it be?” That question was posed to Matthew Sorensen one day. “Grow grapes and make fine wine!” was his reply. And so began a long journey to create what is now named LongSword Vineyard.

Matthew Sorensen worked in both the food and pharmaceutical industries for over 20 years. His extensive experience includes analytical chemistry, fermentation science, and bioprocess development. He is formally educated in the fields of botany, biochemistry, and finance (AKA professional student). Matthew’s passion for wine originated in his college days when he began annual pilgrimages to Napa and Sonoma valleys.

Together, the LongSword family work to produce wines that are easy to enjoy, food friendly, unique, and distinctive. They joined Fly High Vineyard to create the tasting room located just behind their vineyard, surrounded by mountains. The Tasting Room is where these two vineyards share their wines and hospitality with every visitor.

Ten acres of the 23 acre LongSword property are planted to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vines. Matthew utilizes organic farming practices, (without certification,) and has produced nine (and counting) different wine varietals, a majority of which have won multiple awards. All of his white wines are aged in stainless steel rather than oak. Matthew grows his grapes and makes his wines with the belief that wine should be fruit-forward; the wine should taste and hold aromas characteristic to the fruit it was made from.
